Officers' Meeting - July 22, 2006

  • Bawls Fundraiser
    • Bawls is a caffeinated energy drink made from the Guarana berry
    • Bonbright Distributing Inc. in Dayton sells 24 bottle cases of bawls for $24. If we buy from them, we can sell Bawls for a reasonable price and still make a profit but we will need to drive to Dayton to pick up the Bawls.
    • We can also order Bawls from the internet (thinkgeek.com) but it will be more expensive.
  • LAN Party
    • We still need a name for the event and a website
    • Planned for early fall semester so the new freshmen could meet the upperclassmen.
    • The game that will be played will ether be Castle Wolfenstein: In Enemy Territory or Unreal Tournament
    • We can do a BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) event or reserve a lab
    • BYOC Event
      • Will take a lot of work to set up, will most likely need to be a weekend event
      • We will need a space. The main hallways in Nitschke will be perfect
      • We will also need some tables, chairs, switches, networking cable and monitors, keyboards and mice in case the students donÕt bring their own
      • CDs of the game to be played
    • Reserving a Lab
      • Quick and easy to set up, we will just need to get permission from ECC
      • The game can be included in a temporary image. The lab that will be used can be ghosted with the temporary image before the even and then ghosted with the standard image after the event.
    • Sponsors
      • NVIDIA, ATI and OCZ sponsor LAN party events
      • NVIDIA - http://www.nvidia.com/content/sponsorship/frmsponsorship.asp
      • ATI - http://www.ati.com/gitg/promotions/lanparty/index.html
      • OCZ - http://www.ocztechnology.com/lanparty/lan_form.html
      • We will need to fill out the sponsorÕs form 8 to 4 weeks before the event and submit a Post Event Report within 2 weeks after the party
      • We will also need to display the sponsorÕs promotional material during the LAN party and on out website and provide them with pictures of the event
  • ACM-IBM Annual Programming Contest
    • November 10 and 11, 2006
    • Do we need to register online for this event?
  • Ohio LinuxFest 06
    • Takes place on September 30, 2006 in the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus OH
    • Free admission but registration is required by the September 22 deadline. There is also an optional $65 All Admission Pass which includes a ton of free stuff from the corporate sponsors.
    • We can carpool to the even or could UT provide us with a bus is there is a large group going?
  • Q-Zar Laser Tag
    • The details still need to be worked out but it is scheduled for around Thanks Giving time.

    • Ramesh Kumar Ganesan - treasurer
    • Dr. Heuring - advisor
    • Abdul Dakkak
    • Jason Owens
    • Chris Smith
    • Tom Hetrick
  • Artur: What do we want to do this semester?
  • Moussam: What if we tried to fix the wi-fi network?
  • Dr. Heuring: We’d have to go through ECC.
  • Scott: We’d have to submit a written request.
  • Scott: I would be best to go to Greg or whoever… it’s going to be a negotiation.
  • Scott: So, who wants to contact Greg Gaulstad?
  • Artur: I guess I will since I’m the president.
  • Artur: Any suggestions for things we can do for e-week?
  • Artur: I guess we’re doing a LAN. Any suggestions for games…?
  • Tom: Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory?
  • Chris: America’s Army is free but not very fast.
  • Adam: So, we’re going to go with Wolfenstein? Then how do we get it?
  • Tom: Google it.
  • Adam: Ed stopped by a few days ago and asked if we wanted to share a display box in the hall with IEEE.
  • Scott: Ok, what do we put in it?
  • Scott: I donated a Tandey 100 laptop to Dr. Standley last year.
  • Adam: Then we have the painting.
  • Scott: What about one of the Apple core posters?
  • Tom: You should probably put something in there for some of the things ACM will be doing later this semester.
  • Artur: T-shirts; any ideas?
  • Scott: As president of another student organization, let me suggest you try something other than t-shirts.
  • Artur: Back to the “apparel;” do we want to try to sell them, or just use them within the group?
  • Tom: We could just make a generic engineering shirt instead.
  • Tom: We could make a “Freshman’s guide” to engineering for the new students next year.
  • Adam: How long have we been here?
  • Scott: You mean the college itself?
  • Dr. Heuring: We bought NE from OI and the University wanted to have someone over here, so EECS moved in Spring 1988.
  • Adam: So what if we did "UT ACM, crossing Douglas since 1988."
  • Adam: Since we’ve stalled on this discussion of t-shirts, I think now would be a good time to announce the ACM website available at http://eecs.utoledo.edu/~acm/.
  • Artur: Anyone interested in a local programming contest?
  • Scott: When?
  • Artur: Closer to the end semester. Last week of March.
  • Adam: What if we did a web design contest or something like BGSU’s techfair?
  • Dr. Heuring: We’re getting behind to do anything with the high schools. Last time we did something like this we had the first set of mailings out in November.
  • Tom: What if we did a collegiate contest with the general student bodies or local ACMs?
  • Jason: We could do a tri-state ACM contest.
