UT@LCCC Programming Contest Participants Shine

Our ACM club continues to do a fantastic job, with strong performances at spring programming contests.

The first contest was at Denison University on February 28, 2009.  Two teams of four participated, and ended up ranked 10th and 15th out of 16 teams.  Final results are posted at http://personal.denison.edu/

.  Most of our students were participating in their first contest, and almost half were freshmen.  Most of the other schools send only their very best students, usually juniors and seniors, so we’re very proud of our students!

The next contest was at Ohio Wesleyan on March 21.  One team was all freshmen and the other team was all sophomores.  Our teams (The B Team and Name Undecided Yet) ranked 6th and 7th out of 9 teams, as seen at http://go.owu.edu/

These first two contests are particularly of note, because they involved our beginning students.  They came back from the contests all pumped up and excited about programming.  A new confidence is visible in their bearing, and they are intent on preparing for the big ACM Regionals this fall.

The last spring contest was held at Carnegie Mellon University on March 28.  Three teams of three participated, including one student from the UT main campus.  The teams consisted of sophomores, juniors, and seniors.  They performed so well that one team ended up in third place, in the Hall of Champions at http://courseweb.sp.cs.cmu.edu/

.  All three of our teams (UT@LCCC1 & 2, and the Code Cowboys) ranked in the top twelve overall, out of 29 teams.

Please congratulate these great students when you see them!
